Continuous Professional Development at The King’s School

“Success for All” is the school motto, an ethos we strongly believe in. The ongoing development of our staff is one of the school’s priorities as we are advocates of lifelong learning.

We are recognised as a self-improving school. Knowledge, Skills and Attributes are constantly under review and are developed initially from job application and throughout a member of staff’s career with us. Our staff expertise is regularly audited and used to support bespoke training. Staff are encouraged to be objectively self-reflective and actively seek challenge to develop.

The school training programme is reviewed annually and is matched to the needs of the whole school development plan, the curriculum and individual need.

We are the lead school for Initial Teacher Training and strategic partner of the Wakefield Regional Teaching School Alliance (WRTSA) and work hand in hand with our strategic provider Wakefield Partnership for Initial Teacher Training (WRPITT).

Whilst we believe in a “grow your own” model we are also constantly seeking to recruit talented employees who show potential in all fields of education.

Training for all staff begins with a personalised induction plan, followed by performance management targets supported by appropriate training. All middle leaders, both teaching and support staff, have either followed a nationally recognised programme of training from NCTL and/or have attended our bespoke Leadership Development Programme.

The annual INSET programme is designed to support challenge and opportunities whilst responding to whole school needs as well as the ever changing national agenda. This is a bespoke programme and is facilitated by our Recently Qualified Teachers and Lead Teachers.

INSET is a response to individual and whole school need; staff are encouraged to be aspirational about their future career paths.

Our teaching staff work externally to support other schools as Senior leaders in education as well as training at universities, other teacher training providers, WRPITT to name just a few. Support staff trainers have worked externally to support other schools eg with first aid, catering and cleaning.

In order to be a school which is “ahead of the game” we network with all schools within the Pontefract Academies Trust (PAT), Pontefract Education Trust (PET) and Wakefield as well as nationally. Staff attend local and national conferences/courses in order to be as up to date as possible with the changing and challenging education landscape.
