The highly regarded Work Experience programme runs for one week, and is open to all of our Yr10 students. It aims to give them a high quality placement, in accordance with statutory Health & Safety (H&S) regulations. An important part of the preparation for Work Experience is our ‘Mock Interview’ scheme, whereby students complete an application form and are then interviewed by professionals from local businesses and organisations. The students also complete a detailed online H&S quiz which emphasises the importance of H&S in any work place.
If you’d like to offer a work experience placement or be involved in any of our Careers related activities, please contact Mrs J Powney – 01977 601732.
This year, 189 Year 10 students attended local and national Work Experience placements between 23-27 March. 17 students did their Work Experience with the Army at Strensall Barracks in York and 6 students did their Work Experience at the University of York as part of the SHINE residential.
Feedback from businesses, Army personnel, accompanying King’s staff and students was very positive.
Mrs J Powney, PDC Coordinator, commented that “Work Experience is incredibly beneficial not only to our Year 10 students in terms of building confidence, expanding horizons and gaining a valuable insight into the world of work, but also in strengthening existing and new business links in the wider community. The benefits of the Work Experience scheme were acknowledged as part of the Ofsted Careers ‘survey’ carried out in February 2013”.
“This year, we used 69 new employers for placements. Some of them only took a specific student if related or a family friend, although we hope that at least 23 of them will take another student in the next academic year”.
